Power Poppy's Creative Confetti

This is the first time I've participated in a Power Poppy challenge; most of my many Power Poppy images are digital, and I love printing and coloring them.  This "Over the Edge" challenge was new for me.  I chose Power Poppy's Gerbera Daisies image to print on watercolor paper, which I colored with watercolor markers and highlighted with Wink of Stella for some shine.  The sentiment is from Impression Obsession, a design by Dina Kowal.  (I had to make my own envelope because I didn't adjust the size of my card enough for an A2 envelope.)

Color Throwdown

For this Color Throwdown challenge, I chose the digi image from Power Poppy and colored it with watercolor markers.  I finished by painting Glossy Accents over the colored image and then cut it out with the Distressed Edge rectangular die. My little go-to enamel adhesive dots accent the old SU! sentiment.

Tuesday Card

Crafting malaise....I believe that's my condition right now.  Challenges aren't working for me, and I can't seem to think of anything on my own.

I did complete a Tuesday card on time...Power Poppy dahlias colored with markers, a diecut sentiment, and those cute little adhesive dots.  However, even the sun wasn't cooperating in my tiny window space:  the morning sun continues to move south, and the result is a shadow caused by the young maple tree. The shadow would be great for one of my still life photos, but it isn't the best for a card display. 

Color Throwdown

For this Color Throwdown, I used a digi image from Power Poppy, Graceful Still Life and colored it with Stampin' Up and Distress markers.  

Power Poppy in Pink

I love Power Poppy's beautiful images, and I have many of the digi images. This is Graceful Still Life, which has a collection of images, including this beautiful branch of dogwood blossoms.  I colored with Prima watercolor pencils and applied just a bit of water with an aqua pen afterwards.  The sentiment is from a Stampin' Up! set.  The odd placement of the pink dot near the sentiment was necessitated by stray ink from the edge of the rubber.

What a beautiful color palette for Color Throwdown!  Although I've had a blue bedroom "forever," I'm sincerely considering changing after seeing this image.  For my card, I chose Power Poppy's "Well Hello Dahlia" digi image.

Two tubs full of markers couldn't provide me with the pinkish-lavender that I wanted, but I still managed to color the  Power Poppy hellebore in a somewhat realistic shade for this Color Throwdown challenge. The white, green, and gray were easy.  😊

Mojo Monday

For this week's Mojo Monday 480 card, it was fun to work with Authentique's "Journey" monochromatic papers while putting this card together.  Die is from PoppyStamps and sentiment from Power Poppy.  

Freshly Made in Neutrals

Inspired by so many pretty cards this week, I chose neutral colors for my own Freshly Made Sketch.

The papers are from Graphic 45's Artisan Style patterns and solids pad; the die is from PoppyStamps, and the sentiment is from Power Poppy.  

Tuesday's Cards

I realize I haven't posted my Tuesday cards lately; I've been sending them, though, every Tuesday.Today, I mailed these two cards.  They feature digital images from Power Poppy of beautiful "parrot" tulips and a sincere sentiment.  The poppies were colored with markers and the blossoms covered with Glossy Accents.  (This particular layout was CASEd from a Power Poppy card by Dawn Burnworth, which I found on Pinterest.)  

Mojo Monday 438

It's the monthly contest on Mojo Monday.  I used my new digi image from Power Poppy, a hellebore or Lenten Rose.  When I printed the image, I also picked a flower from my new hellebore plant to use as my guide for coloring.  Distress Ink markers in Shabby Shutters, Peeled Paint, and Spun Sugar matched the best.  The "hello" die is a new one from PoppyStamps. The designer cardstock is from my voluminous stash. 

A Tall Version of Power Poppy

The Power Poppy blog has issued a new year challenge:  create a tall card AND do something new.  All but one of my Power Poppy images are digi stamps; my first purchase was the beautiful "Lavender" set.  The card is 4x7 (a "grafted" result to achieve that height), and the technique is one I recently read in the European "Craft Stamper" about using Distress Micro Glaze with Distress Inks. It involves painting the stamped image (on watercolor paper)  with Distress Inks and then applying the micro glaze over the areas you wish to retain their color.  Once all is painted and glazed, color is applied to the layer by smearing ink on a craft sheet, misting it, and pressing the painted piece into the ink ---an old technique with Distress Inks. (Now to create an envelope that fits!)

Tuesday Mailing

Last week, my Tuesday cards didn't go out until Thursday---a two-day hospital "event" with my husband changed my plans.  We're back to "normal" now, and I completed my cards early.  I might even mail them today!  Personally, I love these cards.  I struggle with coloring, and I envy those who do it so beautifully.   When I purchased Power Poppy's "Maize for Days" digi image, I was so impressed by the Design Team's cards using the image.  So I printed the image twice and sat with my SU! alcohol markers while my husband and I watched Sunday Night Football.

Sweet Sunday Sketch with a Purpose

Generally, I don't have a purpose in mind other than completing a challenge when I make a card for Sweet Sunday Sketch or any other challenge.  This week is different, however.  Our youngest son and his wife celebrate their second wedding anniversary and I needed a card!  Everything came together with the digi sunflower from Power Poppy.  Yellow and gray were the theme colors of the wedding two years ago; I made around 200 thank-you cards in these colors.  This sunflower image worked perfectly.   

Sweet Sunday Sketch 262

I'm discovering...and admitting...that I simply cannot maintain a photography blog and a crafting blog, at least with any quality.  There simply isn't enough time in the day (or night) to do all that I really want to do in these areas---as well as accomplish all the other things my life requires.  It has been a week since I made a card, and the Sweet Sunday Sketch just might work the best for me. 

I chose  Power Poppy digi image of lilacs for the sketch and colored with SU markers.  The sentiment is another digi image, from Doodle Pantry.  

Choosing a Sweet Sunday Sketch

Celebrating a blog just for the Sweet Sunday Sketches, the latest challenge is "choose your own sketch."  As a recent participant in the SSS challenge, I went back a few weeks to Sketch #250 for my choice. As it turns out, it was the first sketch of the year.   I made the card for a college friend of long ago who fell and broke her knee this week while walking her dog. It makes me hurt to think of that kind of injury.  The tulips and sentiment are digital images from Power Poppy, colored with SU markers.

Less is More with Foliage in One Layer

Less is More  issues the one-layer challenge again.  This time, the single layer needs to focus on foliage. 

I cut the leafy branch with a PoppyStamps die out of a background of watercolors and salt created by my 5-year-old great-niece.  The foliage was then inset into the card front, which was also embossed on the side with one of Tim Holtz's Alterations. The sentiment is from Power Poppy. 

Less is More -- Watercolor

I think "watercolor" is the appropriate term for what I did with this card:  I applied Distress Inks to an acrylic block and painted with a water brush over the beautiful image from Power Poppy's new "Lavender" set.   "Watercolor" is the theme for this week's Less is More.  

Less is More -- Off The Edge

"Off the Edge" is the challenge for Less is More's One Layer Card this week.  The the Hero Arts poppies were stamped with Versamark on watercolor paper and heat-embossed in white.  The poppies were painted with ink of  Distress Markers and the Power Poppy sentiment was stamped in the same ink.  The poppies were stamped to allow their outline to be partially fussy-cut.

Power Poppy Digi Stamps

Power Poppy is a new stamp line created by the talented artist, Marcella Hawley.  During the month of May, her new releases are all available as digis.  I purchased the gerberas and tulips, flowers I thought I could color adequately.  This card features the gerberas on a background of papers from Authentique's "Blissful" collection. After coloring the daisies with watercolor markers, I spritzed them with Glimmer Mist Pearl. The sentiment is from a Power Poppy set called "Good Thinking: Renewal."
