Feathers for Freshly Made Sketches

One design I have "oodles" of is the feather.  In fact, I have so many feather stamps and dies that I store them in a big ziploc bag. To be honest, I have used very few of them.  When I saw this Freshly Made Sketch #402, I thought feathers might work.  I die cut the images from a Simple Stories paper pack called "Good Vibes."   One of my favorite sentiments (from River City Rubber Works) completes the card.

Freshly Made with Feathers

While searching for a shape for the focus on this card for Freshly Made Sketches, I "found" a large ziploc bag full of my "feathers" -- stamps and dies.  I LOVE feathers, but I rarely use them, for some strange reason.  I chose dies from Simon Says, designer paper from Posh "Simple Stories."  The sentiment is from a large set of feathers stamps and sentiments by Gina K Designs.

Purple for Less is More

I believe "ultra violet" is the Pantone color of the year, and what a beautiful color it is.  Purple has been my very favorite color since high school --very long ago!  Less is More's challenge of the new two-week format involves "Purples," so I went to my alcohol inks and Yupo paper.  The fancy feather die from Impression Obsession created a beautiful purple feather. The sentiment is from Wordsworth.

Color Throwdown 465

I love the color purple...and red, and turquoise, and blue...but purple has been my "favorite" color for decades.  I couldn't pass up this Color Throwdown of purple, black, and white.  From the beginning, I planned to use alcohol inks, which required some experimentation on my part--some which didn't work at all.  The feathers were die cut from a piece of Yupo inked with Amethyst (which is the blue purple I like the best) and Soot Black alcohol inks and then swirled with a paintbrush full of rubbing alcohol.  (The technique was one I watched recently on Jennifer McGuire's blog.)  The feather die is from Little B's "Autumn" set; "awesome" is from Verve.

Freshly Made in Neutrals--with some feathers

A new paper pad of simple designs was my choice for this week's Freshly Made Sketches 273. Dies of feathers and "hello" completed the card.

Less is More in Berry Shades

Less is More has a color challenge this week, and Berry Shades are featured.  I dabbled in berry with Stampin' Up's feather stamps and dies (cut from designer paper), layered on a dry-embossed piece and accented with a Penny Black die, also cut from designer paper.

Less Is More -- New Beginnings

It's a New Beginning in one layer at Less is More.  "Let Your Dreams Take Flight" is a great message for a great-niece who is graduating from college in three years--at age 20, and will be interning at a financial company exactly where she wanted to be.

Feathers and Pinterest

When the feather stamps and dies started appearing, I fell for them....several of them, in fact!  And Pinterest is loaded with cards featuring all sorts of feathers.   I did see one simple kraft card with a white feather and some twine.  I decided to run with the idea, in both vertical and horizontal.  In addition, I dry-embossed the top layer before adding the twine and feather (Spellbinders Shapeabilities Feathers) and added some Washi tape and a sentiment.   I have many more ideas I want to try soon.
