Curiosity #34 --- with Fragments

I thought all my Fragments were gone, but last week I found an HSN box full of Tim's stuff that I bought in September!   (Does that give you a hint about my crafting room?)  Linda's Compendium of Curiosities Challenge has reached #34, which means just one remains---for now.  "Dimensional Collage Fragments" can be found on page 63 of Tim's book.

I chose to use new "Curtain Call" papers from Graphic 45.  I love the black and cream and those great vintage images.  There's actually vintage sheet music under the collage pieces.  (Click on photo for closer view)

Altered Metal Alcohol Inks

Linda's Compendium of Curiosities challenge has reached 33; sadly, we're nearing the end.   This week, she has a wonderful collage of images and inked metal on her creation. (Altered Metal Alcohol Inks is found on page 56 of Tim's book.)    I have a limited supply of metal pieces from Tim's line, but decided I wanted to do something a little different:  4 layers of heavy-duty aluminum foil and the Spellbinder die I can never get to work with cardstock!  It worked well with the foil, and I chose not to punch out all the little pieces in the shape.  It's backed with my favorite Vintage Shabby paper.   The flower is a Prima one made of 'newsprint.' I  inked it with the same colors as the metal and then spritzed it with Pearl Glimmer Mist.

The Curiosity of Rusted Enamel

When I was working on this piece for Linda's "Compendium of Curiosities Challenge" I kept thinking of it as "Distressed Enamel."  After all, it involved Distress Ink.   However, it's "rusted"....and this is the fourth tag I made before I achieved the look I was going for.  I combined Barn Door with Rusty Hinge to get this particular color. (The technique is on page 41 of Tim's book.)

Dealing with no natural light!

I've lived in the same house all my married life....almost 33 years!  Only in the last two years have I become so aware of the fact that there is almost no natural light....at least where I can use it for photographs!  For Linda's Compendium of Curiosities Challenge today, I spent so much more time trying to get a decent photograph than putting the Altered Metal with Paint creation together!  It's still not true-to-life.   To top it off, I dropped the piece and crimped a corner of the thin metallic paper, which refused to smooth out.    Today was definitely a challenge!

I have only three dabbers that work, so I used Juniper and Pearl for Tim's metal pieces.  The patterned paper has the same juniper color as the paint--and I just realized that it's the same paper I used to back up my previous Curiosity.    (See page 48 in Tim's book for this easy technique---#30 on Linda's list.)

A Curiosity of Weathered Wood Grunge

Compendium of Curiosities Challenge #29....could it really be that many?    Linda has chosen "Weathered Wood Grunge" on page 50 of Tim's book for the week.    I was able to use my new "Ornamental" die and one of Tim's adage tickets....plus some of those alpha stickers included in each Basic Grey paper collection.

By the way, "adage" is a traditional saying expressing a common experience or observation; a proverb.

The last of my Fragments...

Linda of Studio L3 has chosen "Colorful Layered Fragments" from Tim's Compendium of Curiosities this week.  I hope it's the last Curiosity that requires Fragments, because I've now exhausted my limited supply.
My approach to Tim's technique is an adaptation of sorts; the painting is more of a background color for parts of a collage stamp image.   I have one refillable alcohol ink pen, but I've never used it.  Instead, I used Copic pens.

Curiosity #27.....Misting with Distress Inks over a Mask

I'm not sure why I had difficulty with this "Curiosity" of Tim's, but I went through at least 4 tags. Linda has chosen "Distress Misting Masks" as the challenge.    I intended  to try a lighter color but ended up with Pine Needles instead.

A "Rusty" Curiosity

Linda chose "Rusted Grunge" from Tim's Compendium of Curiosities for this week's challenge. I used Brushed Corduroy and Aged Mahogany because that's what I have!   I have some pre-cut keyholes and keys, but I decided to use one of my newest Sizzix dies....Tim's Pine Tree. The tag was cut from the same Paper Loft patterned paper that's under the tag; I just inked it with Vintage Photo.

I'm in the mood for Stickles today....

I'm doing a double post today (Compendium of Curiosities and Think Monday Think ATC)  and both creations feature Stickles.  The glitz seems appropriate for the season. Merry Christmas!

Compendium Tag: Rock Candy Distress Stickles

Linda Ledbetter  has a well-arranged, color-coordinated collage on her blog to illustrate Tim's technique from the Compendium of Curiosities (page 47)  today.  Mine, however, is another tag, and my collage items don't show up very well. Probably, I disguised the collage with the distress inks.  I do love that sparkle of the Rock Candy Stickles!

Doubling the Distress

"Double Distress" is the Compendium of Curiosities challenge chosen by Linda L. this week.  Because my results looked a little dull to me, I added some metallic gold ink on the edges. The tag was cut from a piece of grungeboard previously textured and the reindeer was embossed in a CB folder.   (This technique of Tim's can be found on page 40 of his book.)

Curiosity #22...already!

I think I've missed only one of Linda's "Compendium of Curiosities Challenges."   And we're already up to 22.  I  enjoy the "Alcohol Ink Splatter" technique (page 52 in Tim's book), but I tend to over-do the ink part.  (Does anyone else consider canned air rather expensive?  My can is nearly empty, and it's a 20-mile drive to buy a new one, so I used  it sparingly.)  Instead of stamping over the AI background, I chose  diecuts and an embossing folder.   And because I'm in a phase where I can't seem to make a decent card, I fell back on a tag. 

Perfect Distress for Monday

Another "Compendium of Curiosities Challenge" on Linda's blog this week:   Perfect Distress.  I remember trying it when it first appeared on Tim's blog.   Today, my inking either "under-wicked" or "over-wicked" but I did end up with three tags to illustrate the technique.  The two most colorful tags were prepared with the wrinkle-free distress technique before I used the Perfect Distress technique. An Industrial Curiosity

For the "Compendium of Curiosities Challenge" on Linda's blog this week, we're doing "Industrial Grunge."  Although I didn't have the scratch tool, I discovered that a craft knife works just beautifully!   I've had the grungeboard images for at least 2 years, and it was nice to be able to use them. The result:  a Christmas card in non-traditional colors.

A Curiosity: Extreme Masking

Gee..this looked simple in Tim's book!  Three tags later, I'm sticking with this red one.  I felt my masks (Heidi Swapp) left too much 'bare' tag, so I spritzed with a Glimmer Mist in Scarlet.  I'm linking to Linda's weekly challenge for the Compendium of Curiosities. 

Thirteen days without crafting....

Yes, it's been two weeks since I've made anything, but I'm trying to kick-start the feelings again with this Dabber Resist tag.  It's the "Compendium of Curiosities Challenge" on Linda's blog and is Week 18, halfway through here lengthy challenge.

This is the technique found on page 37 of Tim's "Compendium" book.  Photographing with a flash resulted in some odd shiny places where I used Stickles on the jack-o-lantern's eyes.  (Sizzix die).  

An old favorite in the Compendium

Linda has this technique for Compendium of Curiosities Challenge 16 down to a science, and her Halloween tag is a gem!

I love the wrinkle-free distress technique; I'm sure it's one of the very first techs Tim did in a video....although former Ranger Education Director Robin Beam might be credited with doing it first!  One never knows just what the result will be.     The leaves are Tim's stamps and the sentiment is from Inkadinkado.

Curiosity #15

Linda of Studio L3 has us delving into Tim's book again with "Alcohol Ink Agate on Grunge" this week.  My 5 1/4x 5 1/4  inch square card features Tim's new leaf images double-stamped and gold-embossed on the 'agate' background.

I wonder if this week's number of posts will surpass the amazing 93 of last week??

Non-Halloween Masking "Curiosity"

It's "Compendium of Curiosities Challenge" again, and Masking Basics are the rule this week.  Louise has created a wonderful Halloween masked piece, and other contributors have gone Halloween as well.  As one who really doesn't care for standard Halloween images, I've gone another direction.

I started with a white tag and used some of the newest Distress Ink colors, adding Tim's images (from the set I won earlier in this challenge) and his "Concerto" mask.

All-day Curiosity.....

I'm sure there was an easier approach to Linda's " Compendium of Curiosities Challenge" this week, but I didn't take it!  Personally, I love flowers in colors, but I decided to 'grunge' with the Grungepaper Flowers challenge in Tim's book.  One of the most time-consuming steps was gluing some of Tim's paper to the die cut Tattered Florals....I didn't get a good coverage of glue, so the paper kept separating from the Grungepaper.  Then I had to decide how I was going to use the flowers, so the project grew even larger.  I have several papier mache items that I keep thinking I'll alter; one of them was this 'book' box.

I primed with gesso and then painted with metallic copper acrylic.  When that dried, I sanded the edges and corners, cut more of Tim's paper for the top, bottom and insides, adhering them with matte medium.   I used a little of the Tissue Tape on the spine and edges of the inside box. All of the papers are from Tim's "Lost and Found" paper stash.  (Interestingly enough, the 'antique' brads are a Stampin' Up! product.)

There are probably too many flowers for one box, but after I made them all, I wanted to use them!
